Anders Clemens Ĝien - Recuerdos de Tárrega,
(Publisert 01.februar, 2009)
Recuerdos de Tárrega, Anders Clemens Ĝien's third CD, is a warm tribute
to the old master Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909) in commemoration of the centenary of his death.

Anders Clemens Ĝien plays some of Tárrega's most famous works on this CD. Recuerdos de la Alhambra, for instance, combines classical Romanticism with elements of Spanish folk music.
It takes only a moment for the listener to feel the intimate atmosphere and the powerful, tender sense of longing that the music evokes, and it is obvious straight away that nothing except, perhaps, a glorious sunset can top a guitar when it comes to creating a romantic mood.
A new master has arrived
Few guitarists today can match Anders Clemens Ĝien.
Anders Clemens Ĝiens new CD, Recuerdos de Tárrega, is a musical delight from start to finish. He is a new master. But master is too weak a word to describe all the impressions his new CD has given me in the past few weeks. His playing is so exceptional that it actually takes this reviewers breath away.

Guitar gems (5 of 6 possible stars)
because in Ĝiens hands the sound is almost magical; his expressive range is like a dream in which the nuances overlay each other until it is impossible to imagine a more exquisite soundscape than the one he creates. The compositions balance on the edge of folk music, and glow like a collection of small jewels.

Musical door-opener in sensitive listening (6 of 6 possible stars)
Ĝien plays astonishingly well. The scope of his eloquence lies in his exploitation of the instruments register. The contrasts are vast when they are produced in one instrument. All one has to do is listen, and then discover.

Light and elegant (5 of 6 possible stars)
It is now a hundred years since the death of Spanish guitarist and composer Francisco Tárrega, and Ĝiens performances of his repertoire are absolutely superb. In the quiet sections he almost torments the listener, holding back until we are eagerly anticipating the next note.
